Find Websites That Link To Your Competitors Timetable: Day 17
In a sense this is related to the first direct inbound link method. The difference here is that you are not targeting prospects by keywords but rather by your competitors.
First thing is to do a search engine query and enter, "link:" or "links:" followed by a competitor's domain name (with and without "www"). Once you get a list of results, you are off to the races and then it is just a matter of how many you can contact and convince to link to your site.
To do a query you use this type of syntax:
- link:yourcompetitor.com
- link:www.yourcompetitor.com
- links:yourcompetitor.com
- links:www.yourcompetitor.com
- link:http://www.yourcompetitor.com (for AllTheWeb, AltaVista & Yahoo!)
This should return a list of websites linking to your competitor. To check the link popularity of your own sites, simply use your own domain name. Do not forget that all the sites listed in the same category as yours in the major web directories, such as the Yahoo! Directory and DMOZ, are good options too for getting incoming link partners.
Go to www.dmoz.com and browse the category that relates to your site to find other sites as potential link partners. The reason these are highly valuable link partners is because the search engines view sites inside DMOZ as being extremely authoritative and reliable sites. As we suggest in the Affiliate Marketing section of this guide, you want to bribe DMOZ siteowners to link to your site. Buy them a pizza for their office, give them a gift (like a magazine subscription from Magmall.com) or just pay for a link.
As of recent, MSN has the most reliable list of back links to a site because they update their list regularly.
