Blog Marketing Strategy #1: Social Bookmark Tagging

Blog Marketing Strategy #1: Social Bookmark Tagging Overview of the Blog Strategies Related to Social Bookmark Tagging:
When you understand the basic concepts of SEO, you realize that besides organizing content ON your page, and getting lots of contextually relevant sites to link to your site (incoming links), you need one last thing: fresh, updated content. Blogging is exactly this missing piece and that is part of why algorithms love the content that appears here. When you combine the "voting power" of tagging with the freshness of new blog content you have a recipe for killer optimization. This section continues the process of keyword domination through blogging.

Timetable: This is done automatically as you post each blog if you use the software

Tags are one of the hottest new things to hit the blogosphere in 2006 and 2007. To get a full understanding of what tags are read Technorati's article on what tags are. http://www.technorati.com/help/tags.html

Browse http://technorati.com and look for subjects related to your industry. Once you find people who are blogging about the same industry copy their tags, and create a master list. Once the master list is created use the WordPress editor to remove the tags you don't think are useful. Always add new tags because each tag you add will create a new page automatically within your blog (this will only work if you have the tag warrior plug-in installed).

Each one of your tags is a keyword that a search engine can rank. In each post you want to include 6-10 tags. Examples of tags for shopping cart software include:
  • "shopping cart software benefits" as oppose to benefits
  • "ecommerce solutions" (because of semantic indexing)
Create Accounts with Blog Directories and Social Bookmarking Sites and "claim" your blog with each one by telling them what your blog address is. Just follow the instructions on each site to get your blog picked up.

Blog & Ping:

Set up account with http://www.pinggoat.com and http://www.pingomatic.com

Once you publish a blog post you should send a ping notification to these 2 sites above. In addition, for the first seven days don't use pingoat to ping Technorati and WebLogs. These two services should be pinged directly from their web sites instead of using the default pinging script in your Wordpress installation.
